The first Cavoodles are believed to have been bred in the 1950s in the United States. Four decades later, the breed was popularised in Australia because of its excellent temperament, intelligence, and hypoallergenic properties.

Key Characteristics Of Black And White Cavoodles

Are Black And White Cavoodles Family-Friendly?

These dogs are naturally friendly and great with people of all ages. They thrive on human companionship and are wonderful with other household pets. Due to their small size, however, they can easily be injured by aggressive kids and larger animals. Supervision is recommended at all times.

Common Health Issues & Considerations

Black And White Cavoodles may suffer from:

Cataracts

This condition is characterised by the formation of a cloudy membrane over your dog’s eye.

Hip dysplasia

Syringomyelia

A condition where their skulls turn out to be too small for their brains.

Mitral valve disease

A heart condition that affects the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.

Patellar luxation

Progressive retinal atrophy

Epilepsy

Nature / Temperament

Intelligent, affectionate, sociable, playful, and loyal

Suitable Environment

Because of its small size and low exercise requirements, the Black and White Cavoodle is suitable for tiny apartments and small homes with limited or no backyard. As long as it gets to spend time cuddling or playing with its owners, the size of its home will not matter.

Other Considerations

  • While the Black and White Cavoodle is not an excessive barker, it may do so at times. It will bark at strangers to alert their families if they feel there may be a potential danger.
  • This mixed breed loves to be around people and animals. Leaving it alone for a long period may result in separation anxiety. Should you need to be away from your dog for a few hours, it is recommended to hire a pet sitter until you come back.
  • Unlike many other dog breeds, the Black and White Cavoodle is less likely to cause an allergic reaction.

Average cost of a Black And White Cavoodle

Black and White Cavoodles typically range between $1000 and $7950AUD.

How can I take good care of my Black And White Cavoodle?

Nutrition

It is recommended to feed your dog high-quality food formulated specifically for small breeds. Foods that contain balanced levels of carbohydrates, protein, fat, vitamins, and minerals are suggested for optimal health. Fresh, clean water should also be provided daily.

While the Black and White Cavoodle is not prone to obesity, it is still important to monitor its food intake. Puppies may be fed three to four times daily, depending on their weight. Adults may be fed lesser – at least to one or two meals a day.

Just like other dogs, Black and White Cavoodles need to avoid certain foods. These include chocolates, macadamia nuts, garlic, onions, grapes, and corn on the cob.

Grooming

A Black and White Cavoodle’s grooming requirements depend on the type of coat it has. Dogs with Cavalier-like coats need brushing only a few times a week. Canines with Poodle-like coats require more combing.

To prevent tangles and remove dander, it is recommended to clip your dog’s fur frequently. Monthly baths are also suggested, as this mixed breed’s curly hair tends to easily trap dirt and debris. To keep its face clean, regularly trim the hair around its eyes and mouth.

Exercise

Despite its small size, the Black and White Cavoodle is surprisingly energetic and sociable. This is why it needs daily exercise. To keep it healthy, encourage daily playtime, take it out walking, play with it in the yard, or let it socialise with other dogs.

Training

Both the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and Poodle are intelligent and fast-learning purebreds. This is why the Black and White Cavoodle is very easy to teach basic commands. This breed is obedient and eager to please, so you can expect training to be short and fun.

When training a Cavoodle, it is recommended to be patient and firm. This is because this dog tends to have a short attention span and can be independent. Positive reinforcement, consistency, and treats are suggested.

This is general information and should not be relied on for adopting or purchasing advice.

Most Asked Black And White Cavoodle Questions

As a cross of two different purebreds, the Black and White Cavoodle may either look like a Cavalier, a Poodle, or a combination of both. Furthermore, they will look like puppies most of their lives due to their small stature.

Generally, this dog breed has a long muzzle, fluffy ears, and bushy eyebrows. Markings are often solid in colour, while some may have patterns.

Black and White Cavoodles are mostly seen in second-generation crossbreeds due to the Cavalier side of the breeding. They are one of the most common colour combinations you can find aside from red and white, apricot and white, and tan and white.

No, it doesn’t. One of the reasons why this dog is popular is because it does not shed a lot. Because of its short, soft, and low-maintenance Poodle-like coat, it makes a wonderful pet for allergy sufferers.

As with any dog breed, it is important to find a responsible breeder that does not cut corners and makes sure all puppies are raised in a healthy and loving environment. A Black and White Cavoodle from a verified seller typically costs between AUD $4,500 to $7,500.

Where you’re looking for a Cavoodle for sale in Western Australia or South Australia, many reputable breeders will have Black and White Cavoodles for sale.
