Purebred Female desexed 2 year old Devon Rex

Registered, Desexed Ripples is a beautiful 2 year old female purebred Cornish Rex, short hair brown smoke, desexed, she is very loving and very affectionate ,she has distinguished ripples on her fur, and white markings. Ripples is being rehomed due to her owner needing to travel. She has lived with only one owner since purchased from the breeder .She is kept in at night, but loves to play outside in the garden. I am looking for a home that would love her and look after her. I am not sure how she would adjust to other pets. Ideally she would suit a single or a couple without pets . D.O.B. 24/02/2020 Ripples is up to date with: Desexed Vaccinated Wormed Microchipped Registered with council and CAR Microchip numbers::956000012260597

The Cornish Rex’s unique coat also requires unique care.

Origins

The history of the Cornish Rex breed traces back to Cornwall, England, in the 1950s. The breed originated from a genetic mutation in a litter of barn cats. One of the kittens, named Kallibunker, had a uniquely fine and curly coat, distinct from his siblings. His owner, Nina Ennismore, recognized the uniqueness and, with the help of geneticists, started a breeding program using Kallibunker. It was established that the gene responsible for the curly coat was recessive, meaning both parents must carry the gene for the offspring to express the trait.

Key Characteristics Of Cornish Rexs

Are Cornish Rexs Family-Friendly?

Cornish Rex cats make excellent family pets due to their sociable, friendly, and adaptable nature. They enjoy spending time with their human companions and other pets, often engaging in interactive play.

Common Health Issues & Considerations

Cornish Rexs may suffer from:

Polycystic kidney disease

Progressive retinal atrophy

Cardiomyopathy

Nature / Temperament

Active, Friendly, Fun-loving, Gentle

Suitable Environment

Their adaptability makes them suitable for various living conditions, including apartments and houses, as long as they have ample opportunity for play and interaction.

Other Considerations

  • The Cornish Rex is best known for its distinctive soft, wavy coat, which is the result of a genetic mutation.
  • They have a playful, kitten-like demeanour throughout their lives, earning them the nickname “the Peter Pan of cats”.
  • They enjoy the company of their human family members and other pets, relishing interactive play and mental stimulation.

How can I take good care of my Cornish Rex?

Nutrition

Like all cats, the Cornish Rex needs a balanced diet to stay healthy. High-quality cat food rich in proteins and low in carbohydrates is ideal. Given their active nature, Cornish Rex cats may require slightly more food than more sedentary breeds, but overfeeding should still be avoided. Regular check-ups with the vet can help monitor their weight and adjust their diet as necessary.

Grooming

They shed less than most breeds, but their short, fine fur can lead to oil build-up on the skin. As such, they may require occasional baths to keep their skin clean and healthy.

Exercise

They enjoy playing fetch, chasing toys, and even performing acrobatic leaps. To meet their exercise needs, provide a variety of toys and play sessions each day. They also appreciate puzzle toys that challenge their intelligence. Despite their activity level, they’re also quite capable of enjoying a good relaxation session on a cosy lap.

Training

Cornish Rex cats are intelligent and can learn quickly. Training should involve positive reinforcement techniques, offering rewards such as treats or praise for desired behaviour. Socialisation from a young age is also important to ensure they grow into well-adjusted adults comfortable with various situations and people.

This is general information and should not be relied on for adopting or purchasing advice.

Most Asked Cornish Rex Questions

No cat is completely hypoallergenic, including the Cornish Rex. However, because they shed less than other breeds, they might be a good choice for people with mild allergies.

While Cornish Rex cats are energetic and do require regular interactive play, they’re not typically considered high maintenance compared to some other breeds.

Finding a reputable Cornish Rex breeder is the key to getting a healthy, well-behaved Cornish Rex kitten. Cornish Rex kittens for sale from ethical breeders have a much better chance of growing into calm, gentle adult cats. The average cost of a Cornish Rex for sale is usually around AUD $1000 to $2500.
