Sweetie: adorable male domestic long hair / mixed

Sweetie was desexed and microchipped on 15 Aug and I would like him to find a new owner, due to personal reasons. Check out Jackson Galaxy videos for lots of helpful information on how to care for a pet well. He is an indoor cat for his own safety. He is very friendly with people and will get along with other cats, although he can be a bit too friendly which may cause other cats to get on their guard. Cost covers microchipping and desexing. You will also get 3 litter boxes with litter, a Da Bird feather wand toy with 20 different attachments, cat carrier, cat bowls, puzzle feeders, a leash and harness, and a cat backpack. Optionally, you can also take several boxes to use for catification (as a way to provide height for resting on, and also to jump up to higher places). I found him on the street at the beginning of July (2023) and took him in. Please contact me if you would like to be the new owner of Sweetie.

Grooming

Grooming

When it comes to grooming a Domestic Long Hair cat, they require more attention than their shorthaired or medium haired cousins. They need to be brushed and groomed regularly.

Origins

Like the Domestic Shorthair and Domestic Medium Hair cats, the Domestic Long Hair or DLH is a catch-all term that encompasses a type of cat that includes various breeds.

Since this is a pseudo-breed, there are no specific physical traits that are common to all Domestic Long Hair cats. They can appear in all colour and pattern combinations, coat length and texture.

Domestic Long Hair cats were first introduced into Europe in the 16th century. From there they have spread throughout the world, and are the third most popular type of cat. The Persian and Angora cat breeds are derived from the DLH cat, and have become breeds on their own.

Key Characteristics Of Domestic Long Hair (DLH)s

Are Domestic Long Hair (DLH)s Family-Friendly?

Yes. Domestic long hair cats are typically very affectionate and love to be close to their humans. They will often seek out laps to curl up in and enjoy being petted and scratched.

Common Health Issues & Considerations

Domestic Long Hair (DLH)s may suffer from:

Cancer

Hyperthyroidism

Obesity

Nature / Temperament

Most Domestic Long Hair cats are gentle and affectionate animals that enjoy human companionship. They are generally easy to litter box train and get along well with other pets in the household. They are curious by nature and often playful throughout their lives. Some can be timid around strangers but this trait varies greatly from individual to individual.

Suitable Environment

Domestic Long Hair cats are adaptable animals who can thrive in almost any environment. Their ideal home will have plenty of spaces to climb, nooks and crannies where they can feel safe, and ample windows and sunlight. They’re not overly needy but will require care and attention from their owners.

Other Considerations

– The physical appearance of the Domestic Long Hair cat will be influenced by the genetic pool of the geographic area where it lives.

– Domestic Long Hairs are perfect cats for hair donation, as their fur can be used to clean up oil spills.

– It is advisable to keep your Domestic Long Hair indoors, as they are adept hunters and can decimate the local wildlife population.

How can I take good care of my Domestic Long Hair (DLH)?

Nutrition

The nutritional needs of a Domestic Long Hair cat are largely the same as those of any other cat. Cats are obligate carnivores, which means that their diet must consist primarily of animal-based proteins. In the wild, cats eat small prey animals such as rodents or birds.

Domestic Long Hair cats can eat a diet of commercial dry food or canned wet food, both of which should be high in animal protein.

Clean drinking water should be available at all times. Consult your veterinarian for more nutrition recommendations for your specific cat.

Grooming

A Domestic Long Hair cat will need to be groomed on a regular basis to prevent their fur from becoming matted and tangled. It is important to brush their fur with a wide-toothed comb to remove any knots or tangles.

Exercise

A Domestic Long Hair cat needs moderate exercise. It is a good idea to provide your cat with a scratching post and some toys to keep it active. A cat tower can be a good choice, giving your cat a chance to climb for exercise and providing nooks and crannies where the cat can hide.

Training

A Domestic Long Hair cat has no specific training needs, and they are not a particularly high-maintenance breed. It’s best to litter box train your cat and train them to sit still during grooming sessions. They can be smart enough to learn basic commands such as sit, stay, come, and even fetch.

This is general information and should not be relied on for adopting or purchasing advice.

Most Asked Domestic Long Hair (DLH) Questions

No, Domestic Long Hair cats are not prone to health problems. However, they may be more susceptible to weight gain if they do not receive enough exercise.

Yes, Domestic Long Hair can make great family pets. They are typically gentle and affectionate, and can get along well with other animals and children.

If you are searching for Domestic Long Hair kittens for sale, it’s important to only deal with reputable breeders. Ethical breeders will test for health problems and genetic issues, ensuring that the breeding animals and kittens are healthy.

The average cost of Domestic Long Hair kittens for sale will be between AUD $100 and $600.
