About Fox Terrier
There are two types of Fox Terrier: the Wire Fox Terrier and the Smooth Fox Terrier. Both types have many of the same characteristics, and the biggest difference is in their coat type.

Origins
The Fox Terrier can be traced back to England in the 18th century, when fox hunting became popular. English hunters needed a dog that could flush out foxes from their dens, and it was this motivation that spurred the creation of the Fox Terrier.
It was meant to sit in a fox hunter’s saddlebag or box, then would be released when the fox went to ground.
By the 19th century, the Fox Terrier had a uniform look. For many years, both Smooth Fox Terriers and Wire Fox Terriers were considered one breed of two varieties.
However, this would eventually change, has the two likely had different ancestries. Smooth Fox Terriers are now less common than Wire Fox Terriers.
