Chartreux Kittens Looking For New Homes

Some of the characteristics are being very intelligent and quiet(Chartreux lived with, and were named for, the Carthusian monks-doesn't speak unless necessary- of France). One of the rarest breed. Known for their dog-like behavior, very obedient and very tolerant to children (Never had a bad memory with our child). Parents use human toilet, advice can be given about the learning process. Very little need of grooming. Good hunters, keeping themselves busy with houseflies mostly Great companions, great when traveling. They will be ready to leave for their new home at 9 weeks, around 3rd July. Kittens will be vaccinated, worm treated and micro-chipped before leaving for their new home. Parents have papers, but kittens are not registered. Parents and kittens can be seen. I am a hobby breeder, they are part of the family, friendly with us, already spending a lot of time on our laps. We don't keep them in cages. 1 girl left. E-mail me for any questions or information.

The Ultimate Scottish Fold Guide

About Scottish Fold

Grooming

Scottish Folds have a dense double coat that benefits from weekly grooming to remove loose hair and distribute skin oils.

Origins

The Scottish Fold cat breed traces its roots back to a single cat named Susie, found on a farm in Scotland in 1961. Susie’s unique folded ears, caused by a natural genetic mutation, became the hallmark trait of the breed. By selectively breeding Susie and her descendants, breeders developed the Scottish Fold breed we know today.

The breed’s name is an apt descriptor; their ears fold forward and downward, giving them their distinctive appearance.

Key Characteristics Of Scottish Folds

Are Scottish Folds Family-Friendly?

Yes. They are gentle and patient, getting along well with other animals and children. This makes them well-suited to being family pets.

Common Health Issues & Considerations

Scottish Folds may suffer from:

Osteochondrodysplasia

Polycystic Kidney Disease

Cardiomyopathy

Nature / Temperament

Adaptable, Playful, Gentle, Sociable, Intelligent

Suitable Environment

Scottish Folds adapt well to various living environments. They can thrive in apartments as long as they have enough mental and physical stimulation. Like with any other domestic cat, it’s best if they are not allowed to roam free outdoors, as they can wreak havoc on the local animal population.

Other Considerations

  • One fascinating feature of the Scottish Fold breed is their ability to adopt unusual positions. They can often be found sitting up like a meerkat or lying flat on their back – positions seldom adopted by other cat breeds.
  • Not all Scottish Folds have folded ears. Kittens are born with straight ears, and they start to fold after about three weeks if the kitten carries the gene. Even then, some Scottish Folds retain their straight ears into adulthood.
  • Scottish Folds are generally calm, gentle cats that handle stress well. They don’t mind being handled and are generally quiet.

How can I take good care of my Scottish Fold?

Nutrition

Scottish Folds need a balanced diet of high-quality cat food. They can gain weight easily, so it’s crucial to manage their portions and avoid overfeeding. Treats should make up no more than 10% of their daily caloric intake. Regular exercise, through play, can help manage their weight.

Grooming

Regular brushing helps to prevent hairballs, which can cause digestive issues. During the spring and fall shedding seasons, more frequent grooming may be necessary.

Exercise

While Scottish Folds are not as high-energy as some breeds, regular exercise is crucial for maintaining their physical health and mental stimulation. Incorporating interactive toys, laser pointers, and puzzle feeders into your cat’s routine can encourage movement and play.

Training

Training a Scottish Fold is generally straightforward due to their intelligent and eager-to-please nature. They can learn basic commands, tricks, and can even be taught to walk on a leash.

This is general information and should not be relied on for adopting or purchasing advice.

Most Asked Scottish Fold Questions

No. No cat breed is truly hypoallergenic, including the Scottish Fold.

Generally, yes. They are quite affectionate and don’t mind being held or cuddled.

Finding a reputable Scottish Fold breeder is the key to getting a healthy, well-behaved Scottish Fold kitten. Scottish Fold kittens for sale from ethical breeders have a much better chance of growing into calm, gentle adult cats. The average cost of a Scottish Fold for sale is usually around AUD $1000 to $3000.
