Akita's are large breed dogs who need ongoing training to keep them mentally entertained. They also need regular exercise to ensure they do not become destructive. Exercise times will need to be adjusted during the summer months to ensure they do not over heat and they should never have their coat shaved in summer to keep them cool as this will afect both their ability to regulate their body temperature and will damage their coat.
Not ideal for a first time dog owner and would be best suited to a home with previous experience owning dogs.
