What sort of enrichment activities do your animals and litters have?
At JC Miniature Dachshunds, we believe that enrichment is essential for the healthy development of our dogs and puppies. Our enrichment program includes a variety of activities designed to support mental stimulation, physical development, and emotional well-being. Our dachshunds are raised on a spacious ½-acre block, giving them plenty of room to run, explore, and play in a safe and secure environment. This space allows for natural exercise, social interaction, and the development of confident, well-adjusted puppies. From an early age, our litters are exposed to: Age-appropriate toys such as chew toys, balls, and interactive puzzles to encourage curiosity and play. Sensory stimulation through exposure to different textures (grass, carpet, tiles), household noises (vacuum, TV, washing machine), and gentle handling. Basic training exercises including toilet training foundations, name recognition, and introduction to crates and car rides. Outdoor play in our secure yard, where they enjoy fresh air, sunshine, and plenty of space to build strength and coordination. Socialisation opportunities with adults, children, and other pets to help them become friendly and adaptable companions. Tactile and scent-based games to engage their natural instincts and keep their minds active. Calm time and cuddling to reinforce trust and the human-animal bond. These enrichment activities are key to ensuring our puppies grow into happy, healthy, and confident family pets.
How do you socialise your animals?
At JC Miniature Dachshunds, we prioritise early and thorough socialisation to raise puppies that are confident, well-mannered, and ready for family life. Our puppies are: Handled daily from birth to build trust and comfort with human interaction. Exposed to children, helping them become gentle, playful, and patient with little ones — ideal for family homes. Introduced to a variety of people, including visitors, to ensure they are friendly and sociable. Accustomed to everyday household sounds like vacuum cleaners, televisions, and kitchen activity to prepare them for life in a typical home. Given plenty of outdoor time to explore and play safely on our secure ½-acre property, promoting physical and mental development. Socialised with other dogs to learn appropriate behaviour and communication. Raised around cats, so they are familiar with and comfortable around feline companions. This well-rounded socialisation ensures our puppies are adaptable, loving, and ready to thrive in their new homes.
What health checks have you undertaken on your breeding animals and your litters?
At JC Miniature Dachshunds, the health and wellbeing of our dogs and their puppies is our top priority. We are committed to responsible breeding and take all necessary steps to ensure our breeding animals and litters are healthy, genetically sound, and well-cared for. For our breeding dogs: Full DNA testing has been conducted to screen for hereditary diseases commonly found in the dachshund breed, including Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA), Neuronal Ceroid Lipofuscinosis (NCL), and other breed-specific conditions. Regular veterinary checks are performed to monitor general health, dental condition, and reproductive wellbeing. Vaccinations and parasite control are kept up to date to ensure ongoing health and safety. For our litters: Veterinary health checks are carried out before puppies go to their new homes. Each puppy is assessed for overall health, physical development, and signs of illness or congenital issues. Puppies are vaccinated, microchipped, and wormed at the appropriate intervals. Parasite prevention is administered to ensure puppies are protected from internal and external parasites. Ongoing observation and care are provided daily, and any concerns are promptly addressed by our trusted veterinarian. We take pride in raising healthy, happy puppies and are transparent with families about all health records and vet history.
